Nikolai Rubinov (alias) is a 27-year-old multidisciplinary video artist and a graphic designer from Helsinki, who is about to graduate from the master’s program of Visual Communication Design (Aalto-University, ARTS). He uses a diversity of techniques in his production variating from hand drawn frame by frame animations to digitally generated complex moving graphics. His main work tools are moving graphic editor softwares and lately he has been getting into TouchDesigner and JWildfire. He started in video art as a VJ (Visual Jockey) in the night club scene when he was 18-years old and is a practicing VJ till this day, performing by artist name VJ Moody Bitch, both in night club scene and at music concerts and festivals. He aims to stretch the limits of art platforms and is experimenting with adapting his art onto the environment’s provided possibilities. In terms of content Nikolai wants to deep dive into endless possibilities of what our so chaotic yet mesmerizing universe can provide in terms of inspiration. He creates immersive fractal structure animations and plain two-colored roughly hand drawn sketches and everything in between. Cosmic and dark, but don’t be afraid, he is not that mysterious, nor does he bite.
